More details:
I am Krista Davis, currently working for the Allen School. I’m leading a workshop on technical interview skills based on my experiences conducting hundreds of interviews at Google and a small startup.

I am a senior backend engineer and will focus on software engineer interviews. Some content will be applicable to other technical roles such as PM or SRE. We’ll cover what I look for as an interviewer (at large and small companies) compared with other styles you may encounter; how to find and generate practice problems; and techniques for getting the most out of practice problems.

The workshop will be a mix of me talking, small group discussion & practice, and large group discussion & practice (pending willing volunteers). It will be practical and interactive.

If you want, you can bring your resume which may or may not come into play for some activities. Please bring scratch paper and a pen(cil).

Student volunteer trip to Ecuador this summer!

Medical volunteer trip to Ecuador!
August 11-20, 2017
through Timmy Global health, sponsored by Microsoft

Hello CSE students! I’m working with Microsoft and Timmy Global Health to coordinate a student volunteer trip to Ecuador this summer, providing medical outreach to rural communities in the Amazon. The goals of the trip are to engage students in volunteer work and to increase access to basic healthcare. Microsoft is sponsoring the trip through scholarships, coordination, and volunteers.

  • The trip runs Aug 11-20, including travel days, free time, and 5 days working in clinics
  • No medical skills necessary. 🙂  Participants must be enthusiastic about working with a close and diverse team in a challenging environment.
  • Spanish skills are not necessary, but native and fluent Spanish speakers are highly encouraged to participate!
  • The trip cost is $1,325 plus airfare (roughly $900). Microsoft will provide scholarships for some participants. Scholarship decisions will be made before you need to commit to the trip.
  • Participants must commit to the trip by May 12; if you have a summer internship, you should talk to your host about taking this time off now, or before committing to the trip.

About Timmy Global Health and Microsoft:
Timmy Global Health is a non-profit bringing basic medical care to communities in Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and Guatemala. Timmy works closely with local organizations and professionals to ensure their work supports local services in appropriately and sustainably. Microsoft employees have supported Timmy for more than 15 years, through annual volunteer trips and fundraising.

Spring Quarter Notes for 2017

A few spring quarter notes for everyone:

  1. Welcome back! We hope you had a nice, restful (perhaps too quick) spring break and are ready for one last run through the quarter.
  2. If you are still trying to get into a full CSE course, please attend the first day, put your name on the overload request form, and then wait with patience. Unless your situation is highly unusual, showing up to dropins this week won’t be helpful. You just need to wait.  We will try to have all decisions made by Friday.
  3. If you don’t have ANY CSE courses yet, please put that note on the overload request form.
  4. If you are planning to graduate this spring and have NOT applied yet, you have until the 3rd Friday of this quarter to submit your final paperwork.
  5. If you plan to graduate in fall or winter, you should apply to graduate by May 4th, 2017 if you want graduating senior priority status for fall and winter next year.
  6. If you have to email the advisors about a section switch or anything course registration related: please include your student number, full name and the sln’s of the lecture and section in question

Thank you!
