Hey everyone! A couple of reminders about Winter Ball:

1) The deadline to RSVP is set to Friday, February 1st! Register via Eventbrite (https://acmwinterball19.eventbrite.com). Please note that clicking “going” on Facebook is NOT the same as registering via Eventbrite!

2) There’s a lot of work that goes into preparing Winter Ball, and to make it all happen we need volunteers! If you’re interested in helping out with Winter Ball, please fill out the following form: https://goo.gl/forms/5NwNHFavexA0YIX12

3) While Winter Ball is the CSE department’s annual semiformal event, you do NOT need to bring a +1 and you are NOT required to dress up! Feel free to come by yourself and meet some awesome new people, dressed up or not. 🙂

Particularly geared toward juniors, seniors and alumni looking to fund final undergraduate years, gap years and graduate school.

Personal Statement Writing Workshops:

Scholarships, summer programs, major admissions and graduate/professional programs often ask applicants to write a personal statement or application letter. This type of writing requires you to outline your ideas, plans and strengths confidently and concisely, which can be challenging. Join us to get started brainstorming, drafting and strategizing how your statement can provide evidence of your interests and achievements that aren’t reflected in other parts of an application.

Scholarship Fridays:

Fridays at 1:30pm during winter quarter you have the opportunity to learn more about scholarships! This quarter learn about Getting Started with scholarships, the Mary Gates Endowment for Students and the Gilman Scholarship. Check out the calendar for the session schedule!

Friday, Feb. 1 will feature the Mary Gates Leadership & Research Scholarships. Friday, Feb. 8 will feature the Gilman Scholarships for study abroad.

Do you need a game plan for approaching technical interview questions for software engineering roles? Kasey Champion, CSE 373 Lecturer & Software Developer @ Karat, will teach you a framework you can apply to any coding problem. She will also clue you in to important do’s and don’ts so you can feel prepared to shine your brightest at your interviews!

The CC@E’s 3^rd annual Engineering Career Success Conference is coming up on Saturday, January 26, and they have a bunch of alumni/industry professionals lined up to present on various Career topics and participate in the Lunch Networking Roundtable. Sample companies represented by the 16 alumni/industry professionals who will be presenting on various topics include Google, Boeing, Deloitte, Belcan, KPFF Consulting Engineers, Microsoft, and more. You can see the attached ‘Day at a Glance’ to learn more about the conference and the topics that will be presented by the alumni/employers. This is a way for you to connect with alumni/industry professionals in a safe and engaging environment.

We have over 20 industry volunteers from companies all over Seattle signed up to help conduct mock interviews happening on Tuesday, January 29th from 6 PM – 8:30 PM! Each practice interview will consist of a 30 minute coding problem followed up by 15 minutes of feedback. This is an invaluable opportunity to get some 1:1 time with an experienced industry professional that can give you candid feedback and coaching on your current interview skills.

Join CSE Student Advisory Council on January 24th, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the Gates Commons (6th floor of the Allen Center) to have an honest and inclusive discussion with CSE alumni about managing your mental health and wellness, especially with the high-pressure culture within CSE.

This is an opportunity to openly talk about mental health issues as a collective community. We will discuss the stressors that we face, ending with ways of maintaining mental health while balancing everything in life and improving our attitudes towards mental health.
