I’ve left about 100 HCI, Design, and General CS/Programming/Hardware books outside my office (642 CSE).  They are free on a first come first served basis. Whatever is left out there on Monday evening or Tuesday will be collected and delivered to the Good Will.

Final Reminder: Capstone Requests due Thursday 8/8

This is your last reminder to get your Capstone surveys in! . If you miss this survey, some Capstones will fill and space may be limited in the class you want.  Also note that we did add one Capstone to the original list we sent out – Advanced HCI (CSE 441) will be offered next Spring.

So, if you’d like to take a Capstone anytime next year, read through the info (including info about all of next year’s capstones) on this page, consider your preferred capstone(s), and request a space ASAP. The survey will close Thursday August 8th at noon.
Remember that a Capstone is required for CE majors, and highly-recommended for CS majors.

CSE departmental and CoE scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year

The application for CSE departmental and College of Engineering (CoE) scholarships for the 2013-2014 academic year will open on August 1st (today) at noon and will close on August 20th.  The majority of the CSE scholarships are offered during this period with academic merit, financial need, or a combination of both as criteria for recipients.  New majors for autumn 2013 are also encouraged to apply, as many of the awards are targeted for new transfer students or freshmen. You do not want to miss out!

If you have a renewable award, you must submit a new application in order to be considered for possible renewal.

CSE 467 – new course added for fall 2013

CSE 467 has been added to the fall schedule, CE Majors and interested CS Majors are encouraged to apply

 

Short course description:

This course builds upon the basic digital logic design techniques from CSE 352, focusing primarily on design, implementation and verification of customized application-specific digital logic designs. In this course, students learn how to build and optimize algorithms to run very quickly on custom hardware. Such hardware acceleration is commonly used for high speed computations in computer vision, artificial intelligence, computational biology, and finance. The class project will allow students will implement a highly optimized computer vision algorithm on an FGPA.

Undergraduate Research Opportunity in Electrical Engineering

Dear CSE Undergraduates,

I am a PhD student in the EE department working under Professor Mamishev in SEAL lab.
Starting Fall 2013 I will be starting a new project which will require a lot of programming in: Java, Python, C++, and C#. The project will be using Leap Motion, Android App development, and a few other sensors. If you are an experienced programmer in one or more of the languages listed above, have worked on android app developments, and passionate about research and learning new things; please email me (sosper30@uw.edu) with your resume and most updated transcript. Recruiting for the CSE Animation Capstone course 2013-2014

The Animation Capstone culminates in a very professional and exciting collaboratively produced digital short film, similar in process to Pixar/Disney and Dreamworks productions. We are seeking applicants for our 2013-2014 production. There are several courses CSE offers throughout the year to support the pre-production and production work. cs464, Character Animation and cse458 Introduction to Animation will be offered Fall quarter 2013. CSE 460, the Animation Capstone will be offered in Winter qtr 2014 and CSE 464 Post Production will be offered Sprint quarter.  Only two courses are required  for those who have limited space in their schedules:  cse458 and cse460.  For more information, film examples,  and instructions for applying to this exciting program go to:
