Apply to DubHacks. Applications closing soon!

DubHacks  is on Oct 17-18. It’s the first major student-led hackathon in all of PNW and it’s right here at UW.

TLDR: You will not regret attending DubHacks. Apply not at http://dubhacks.co/apply

Not-TLDR:

Companies including Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Intel, Qumolo and many startups will be there, and they will be looking to connect to talented students. All meals will be provided. Students will form teams and compete to come up with and build creative, original products and services ranging from hardware projects to mobile apps and digital services. A panel of judges from the startup and tech scenes will award prizes to the best hacks.
We will provide latest hardware and wearables to help students literally materialize their creativity – Oculus Rift, Leap Motion, Myo, Arduino and a lot more, and provide access to 3D printers to attendees. We will have industry professionals providing mentorship in any field to all attendees all night long.
Four pre-hackathon workshops will be held in the weeks leading up to DubHacks, led by both students and experienced entrepreneurs. On October 7th there will be a workshop on Idea Generation 101, Github 101 on October 9th, Customer Development 101 on October 14th, MEAN Stack 101 on October 16th.
It’s a great opportunity for everyone to get some out-of-class experience and meet some amazing people. Apply not at http://dubhacks.co/apply

Google Translate Tech Talk
In celebration of National Translation Day, join Arne Mauser for a tech talk on “Machine Translation: What it is, how it works, and why it matters”. Now with 80 supported languages, Google Translate breaks down the language barrier for millions of people every day, helping people to connect, share and learn. Come along to the tech talk with Arne Mauser and get to know how Google Translate works, how people use it, and how we as engineers can have a positive impact on people’s lives.
About Arne: I did my Master’s at RWTH Aachen University in Germany (2005) followed by a PhD on Machine Translation (I did not technically graduate yet but this is still in the works!) In 2010 I did an internship on the Google Translate team based in Mountain View and joined the same team as a full time Software Engineer in 2011. The main things I work on now are getting new languages supported and improving overall translation quality.
When: TOMORROW, September 30th at 6:00pm
Where: EE 125
RSVP: goo.gl/R2yeeE

Associate Product Manager (APM) Info Session
Join some current APMs (UW alumni!) to learn about Google’s two-year rotational program for new grads in product management. We’ll share what we do day-to-day (teaser: it’s exciting to be at the heart of defining new features for brands that are household names) and info about the application/interview process. Those looking for internships or full-time opportunities are welcome!
When: Wednesday, October 1st, 3:00 – 4:00pm
Where: CSE 403
RSVP: goo.gl/mf1s7X

APM Pitch-a-palooza
Get your product proposal on with some current Google APMs to practice the first steps in defining a new product, starting with brainstorming ideas and ending with the big pitch. We’ll provide you the seed of an idea and some interesting constraints, but it’s up to you to bring the creativity. We’ll also give you lots of tips on how to create a focused, well-defined, winning product. Winners get prizes!
When: Wednesday, October 1st
Where: CSE 403
