Help the Arboretum with a focus group (plus, free food!)

“My name is Eve Rickenbaker and I’m a graduate student in the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences. My research involves understanding the UW student perception of the Washington Park Arboretum. The ultimate goal is to create a better visitor experience for you. I need approximately 6 students to participate in each focus (discussion) group in Suzzallo Library.

All undergraduate and graduate students are eligible and invited to participate even if you have never visited or heard of the Washington Park Arboretum. Each student’s perspective is valuable.

PIZZA and drinks will be provided as my way of thanking you for your time and participation.

Ask a fellow UW student friend to join you!

There are two upcoming focus groups and if you are interested in participating in one, please respond to me soon!

Monday, March 17th, between 10:30-1:00pm in CSE’s Microsoft Atrium for two exciting poster sessions.

Hi Everyone!

Please join us next Monday, March 17th, between 10:30-1:00pm in CSE’s Microsoft Atrium for two exciting poster sessions.

1) CSE 440: Introduction to Human-Computer Interaction
(10:30am-12:30pm)
http://courses.cs.washington.edu/courses/cse440/14wi/

The theme for this quarter’s projects is accessibility. Students will present 10 projects that aimed at designing tools for persons with challenges or disabilities, including target user groups such as hospitalized teenagers, wheelchair-bound individuals, persons with food allergies/sensitivities, older adults, deaf/hard-of-hearing individuals, and low-income families. In just 10 weeks, students have brainstormed project ideas, observed target users to understand their needs, iteratively refined their ideas based on user feedback, and constructed video and interactive prototypes to convey their designs.

2) CSE 490D: Designing Technology for Resource-Constrained Environments: Design Studio
(12:00-1:00pm)
http://courses.cs.washington.edu/courses/cse490d/14wi/

CSE 490D/481K is a two-quarter-long design and implementation sequence. In the two credit winter quarter design studio, students form project groups to scope and design projects that will then be implemented in the spring quarter capstone. This quarter three groups are proposing projects related to vaccine cold chain management. They are all addressing real needs as expressed by experts from UNICEF & PATH who will be eagerly awaiting their prototypes next quarter.

The students would greatly appreciate your feedback on their projects.
Refreshments will be served.

We hope you can make it!
