Hello everyone,
We hope you are all enjoying your break. I wanted to alert you to a few changes in the CSE Advising Team coming up this winter/spring quarter.
First, we are happy to announce that we have hired one of your very own, CSE major Jack Warren, to serve as a peer advisor. He will mostly be working with pre-majors, but also doing some current CSE major advising for the rest of this year. Stop in to dropin hours to say hi to Jack when you get a chance, we are happy to have him on board.
Additionally, I (Crystal) will be out on leave mid-January through mid-May. While I’m away, Raven will be acting lead advisor for the CSE team. Jenifer and Maggie will still be here as well to help you out. Jenifer will be your point person for BS/MS questions.
And finally, we’ll also be trying a few more ‘online chat’ advising hours, so stay tuned for more information on that in the coming weeks.
Since the CSE advising office will be slightly under-staffed for a few months, we ask for you to have an extra dose of patience during the first week or two of the quarter and during peak registration periods and ask that you try to plan ahead with your questions as much as possible.
Thank you,
~CSE Advising

We are attempting to gauge interest in the CSE student body to determine what level of participation the CSE department will have in the UW’s Parent/Family Weekend scheduled for April 8-10th. If you and your family plan to attend the weekend of events, please fill out this super short catalyst survey. https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/cseadv/289683 by next Wednesday January 6th.

Just a reminder to all engineering students that (blue) electronic waste recycling bins are available in the Paul Allen Center Atrium for all electronics and electronic components that you may find yourself wanting to dispose of at the end of the quarter. Among other electronics, any components you no longer want from your lab kits… can find a safe home in these blue recycling bins.
Thanks for helping us to reduce Electronic Waste on the UW Seattle Campus!

take no more than 25 minutes to complete. The survey will close January 3rd, 2016 at

Should you decide to complete the survey, you will be entered into a raffle for a $100
gift card to Amazon!
If you are interested in completing the survey, please click the link below, or copy and
paste the URL into your internet browser:

Tutoring E-Flyer
MESA Flyer New-2
My name is Joffrey Hooks. I am the Coordinator and Instructor for Seattle MESA’s Tutoring Program. At Seattle MESA, we focus on engaging STEM underrepresented minorities in the local high schools and middle schools. We facilitate multiple academic programs with the focus on reaching these underrepresented and often at-risk populations, and their parents, with the aim of helping them become high school graduates, successful college students and, hopefully, STEM professionals. We pride ourselves in being very effective and we are equally proud of the fact that many UW students volunteer to work with us.
We have a need and I believe you can help. I am looking for dynamic UW students that would be interested in volunteering to tutor local high school and middle school students. Students that are interested will be trained and supported by MESA staff, credits will be earned, transportation will be provided and the satisfaction of serving a wonderful group of students will be experienced.
See attachments above for more information.

We’ve had a lot of interest surrounding outreach to K-12 students and prospective CSE majors here on campus. We’d like to invite all interested students to join our outreach efforts in one of two ways:
1. You can still sign up for the Outreach Seminar, that meets
Tuesdays 130-250 CSE room 303. sln 12920
You need an add code to sign up this week, so just go to class tomorrow, and we will have some there.
2. You can also sign up on our CSE Ambassadors mailing list. This is a list where we advertise when we need volunteers for various outreach events.
https://mailman.cs.washington.edu/mailman/listinfo/ambassadors
It really makes a difference when we can bring current majors to these students, so thank you in advance for your time.
