Winter quarter is prime internship interview season! Unless you’re graduating soon or already have Very Important Summer Plans, finding an internship should be high on your list of summer options.
CSE alum Alex Loddengaard gives some advice on his blog: “I challenge you to intern as much and as early as possible. The more diverse work experiences you can have, the more likely you’ll be to find and pursue something you love. And pursuing something you love is absolutely critical for living a happy life.” Read his full blog post here: http://alexlod.com/2010/12/15/internships-and-the-importance-of-diversity/
We have made some updates to the degree requirements webpage for the undergraduate program and more specifically to the transition document page for students under a mix of old and new 300 level requirements.
There was some confusion within the last few months that has recently been nailed down, so all transition students should look at the transition page to make certain that they understand what they are required to take.
Degree Requirements: http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/ugrad/current/degree_requirements.html
If you had a graduation appointment recently and think that something on this sheet conflicts what you heard from an advisor, please contact us asap so we can clear up any confusion.
And finally, if you took a mix of old and new 300 level courses and they are not showing up on your degree audit, please send email to ugrad-advisor@cs with your student number and we can make the substitutions for you so that your degree audit should make more sense.

Working late in the labs? Don’t walk across campus alone! Husky NightWalk offers full-time uniformed security guards to assist students, staff, and faculty members to various locations on campus and within a one-mile radius off campus. Just call to request someone to walk with you to your dorm, apartment, or anywhere else near campus!
206-685-WALK (9255) – please put this in your phone to easily access it!
Hours: 6pm – 2m, Monday – Sunday (7 days week)
Although aiding primarily on foot, the guards have a van available for those who need it. In addition, they are equipped to help people, with proper ID, who cannot get into their offices, buildings, or vehicles. They also can assist with jump starts for dead batteries, and are extra eyes and ears in parking lots and other UW facilities.
Please utilize this service, and encourage your friends to do so!
Sorry about that last post, I meant to say check your MyCSE linked from the current CSE students webpage, not your MyUW to see if you have a projected graduation date.
I hope the quarter is going super well for everyone. However, if you’re stuck in a class that is a bit of a challenge, remember that we have limited tutoring available for CSE 300- and 400-level classes. If you’d like to join a study group, please send me an email today!
Groups are composed of 2-3 undergrads and one grad student tutor, and meet one hour per week. Tutoring is a commitment; only request to join a group if you are sure you will attend every week. I will match tutoring groups on Monday morning, so email me before then.

Tough classes? Rough quarter? Want a study buddy for that troubling theory class?
We have a few tutors available for 300- and 400-level courses. If one hours/week of dedicated study time with a group would help you succeed, email me and I’ll try to hook you up. Just remember that tutoring is a commitment (one hour every week for the rest of the quarter), and that we rely on volunteer grad student tutors so sometimes we can’t meet all requests.

Hopefully you all read our summary post on Monday that referenced the curriculum change information sessions coming up. This is just a reminder message.
The first one will be tomorrow, Wed, 230-330 in the commons, room 691 of the Allen Center. The second session will be Monday the 9th from 330-430 in the same place.
If you have finished the 300 level CSE courses or will by spring, you don’t need to come, but if you have started or will start the 300’s and are not sure if you will finish them all this year, you should plan to attend.
We’re hoping to video at least one of the sessions and will put up some web material and FAQ’s within the next week or two.
