Volunteer to tutor for the CSE 14X series this quarter!

Hello Allen School Students!

Happy fall quarter!

We are looking for volunteer tutors to tutor students from the University of Washington athletics teams for the 14X series this quarter.

WHY TUTOR?

Tutoring is a great way to work on your communication skills, support students interested in exploring CSE, and get experience on your resume. Additionally, it is a low commitment way to determine if a teaching assistant position in the future is a good fit for you or to keep up with your current tutoring skills.  This is a volunteer position but tutors who meet with their group every week during the quarter will get CSE swag!

TUTORING DETAILS

Tutors meet once/week with a student, covering CS concepts from either CSE 142 or CSE 143. No prior tutoring experience necessary (this is an opportunity for students in the course to get extra help in addition to resources offered by the instructor and teaching assistants). The commitment is one hour/week for one quarter plus a mandatory one hour tutoring training for all new tutors = a total commitment of 10 – 15 hours total.

REQUIREMENTS
Your knowledge of the material (you must have completed and received a 3.5+ in the course you would like to tutor for) and your willingness to help!

INTERESTED?

Please send me (cdolese@cs.washington.edu) a brief summary (one to two paragraphs) about why you are interested in tutoring, the experiences that you have had that would make you a good tutor, and your time commitments this quarter (course schedule and other commitments outside of academics). Additionally, please let me know if you would prefer to tutor for CSE 142 or CSE 143 (or no preference).

Due to the high level of interest in tutoring the 14X series in the past, the summary will be due on this upcoming Monday, October 1st at 8:00AM. If you submit a summary, you are stating that you have the time to commit one hour per week to your student for the entire quarter. I will get back to students with a decision early next week.

Have a nice weekend,

Chloe
