Application for CSE Exchanges opens next Monday!

Prepare yourselves, internationally-minded undergrads! The online application for CSE Direct Exchange programs opens next Monday. If you’re interested in studying in Sweden, Switzerland, or Germany, review the details of our exchanges online and consider meeting with an advisor to discuss how an exchange can fit into your academic plans.

Application timeline for CSE Exchanges in the 2016-17 school year:

  • Mon Jan 18: CSE application opens
  • Mon Jan 25: CSE application closes
  • Wed Feb 10: Exchange offers sent
  • Wed Feb 24: Student deadline to confirm they will go on their exchange
  • March 1: Exchange participant names due to UW Study Abroad

You can read this page with LOTS of details on CSE exchanges. Here are some quick answers to common questions:

  • CSE exchanges are open only to CSE majors.
  • No foreign language skill is required, though it may be useful. Courses are taught in English.
  • Exchanges are designed to last a full year, but one semester is possible.
  • CSE majors pay regular UW tuition while abroad, plus expenses like airfare and insurance. Financial aid and scholarships apply normally. Some schools pay you a stipend, offseting extra expenses.
  • Students are selected based on their academic and personal preparation for an exchange.
  • CSE students typically go abroad after completing most/all 300-level CSE courses.
  • All/most of your exchange courses can fulfill CSE requirements, assuming you select courses carefully.

Exchange destinations are almost as pretty as Seattle (student photos from Stockholm, Sweden and Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland):
