The City of Kenmore is hosting a civic hackathon event on Saturday, Sep. 26th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kenmore City Hall. This will be a great opportunity for young and developing (pun intended) coders and programmers to experiment with open data hosted by our partner Socrata, develop web app prototypes with teams, network, and compete for a $500 team prize.
The focus is on economic development—specifically, how a small city can harness and share open data to attract businesses, real estate development, and creative talent. There will be free breakfast, lunch, and coffee—as well as discounted drinks and meals at a local brewery following the event. More details can be found at www.kenmorewa.gov/hackathon.
Thanks,
Code for Kenmore Hackathon
TELLING OUR STORY. WITH OPEN DATA.
In Kenmore, we want to attract and retain good families and businesses. To do that, we need to tell our story—with open, reliable, and easily-accessible data.
That’s why we’re holding a Code for Kenmore Hackathon at City Hall. This day-long event will draw together talented and civic-minded coders—as well as designers, project managers, and all other concerned citizens—to help us come up with creative ways to spur economic development using big and open data on our website!
We are offering a $500 CASH AWARD for the best team prototype to answer this question: How can a city (especially a small one like Kenmore) harness and share open data on the web to attract businesses, entrepreneurs, real estate developers, and the creative talent pool?
We will have an open data portal, along with as many relevant datasets as we can think of, set up and ready for you to play with during this 8-hour event. In addition, you can expect the following out of this hackathon event:
Free breakfast and lunch, as well as snacks throughout the day
Coffee (of course)
Good feelings and collaboration!
Networking time (pun intended): those with established careers in the software development field are invited to attend the lunch portion and mentor teams on their prototypes
