CSE Outreach Survey

Hey all,

The department is gearing up to provide more CSE specific outreach opportunities for CSE undergraduates.  Committees are meeting to push forward a variety of outreach opportunities, but they need your help!  Please fill out this catalyst survey right now, before you forget, if you are at all interested in spreading the joy of CSE to the world and getting involved in the community.

https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/cseadv/114529

There is absolutely no binding commitment by filling out the survey, we are just looking to gather general information about what CSE and non-CSE outreach you have done in the past.  Try to fill out the survey before noon, Monday, October 25th, but sooner is always better than later!  =)

Thanks!

Graduating seniors check MyCSE (not MyUW)

Sorry about that last post, I meant to say check your MyCSE linked from the current CSE students webpage, not your MyUW to see if you have a projected graduation date.

October 19, 2010

Attention Graduating Students for Winter, Spring or Summer

To all graduating seniors (or those who want to graduate Winter, Spring or Summer).

If you file your graduation paperwork by November 3rd and are graduating in winter or spring, you’ll receive graduating senior priority for the next two quarters. Ideally we’d like to two days in advance if you are planning to come in since many of you are transition students and it’s helpful if we can prep your paperwork before you get here.

You can check the main calendar on the current student site: http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/ugrad/current/
to find out when dropins are going to be held. We will also try to add some additional hours just for graduation appointments.

Go to this link to tell us what day you hope to come in.  https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/cseadv/114482

If you don’t remember whether or not you’ve been in yet to file, you can go to your MyUW and check the projected graduation date on the front page. If that isn’t there but you’re still pretty sure you came in, just email us and we’ll look it up for you.

Thanks Everyone,
CSE Advising

Looking for focus group volunteers to work with UW Registrars Office

Generally we only forward CSE relevant events, but this one you folks could have some good input on, so I’m forwarding this too.

Subject: Looking for focus group volunteers to work with UW Registrars Office

The Office of the University Registrar (OUR) is interested in making the registration tools available via MyUW more useable and easy to understand. They are looking for student users of MyUW to participate over the next few weeks in a focus group and provide input for the upcoming video tutorial for using MyUW. This is an opportunity to tell OUR what you would like to see and learn in that tutorial.

If interested, please fill out the survey at https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/wtwynn/114193. If you are selected you will receive a confirmation email within 3 business days of your submission and selected participants will receive a $10 credit on their Husky cards upon completion of the focus group.

If you have any questions, please contact me or Fang Lin (fanglin@uw.edu) for more information.

http://www.cs.washington.edu/affiliates/meetings/recruit-co-1011.html

You will NOT want to miss this if you are remotely thinking about an internship  or full time employment.  Bring lots of resumes to hand out. Come looking sharp and eager to learn about who’s who in the tech world. It will be a very exciting day!

In the distant future…

5.) ACM Fall Fest

6.) ACM Research Night

Wednesday, November 10th, 430-700pm, CSE Atrium

A fun night to see what exciting research projects undergraduates are working on in the department.  There will be a short talk, Q&A panel, poster session, refreshments, and opportunities to get involved in research for the following quarter.  This is a great opportunity to take part in a serious project long before summer comes around.

That’s all folks!  (for now) I apologize in advance if my overuse of exclamation marks, !!!!!’s, bothers you!

Limited tutoring available!

I hope the quarter is going super well for everyone. However, if you’re stuck in a class that is a bit of a challenge, remember that we have limited tutoring available for CSE 300- and 400-level classes. If you’d like to join a study group, please send me an email today!

Groups are composed of 2-3 undergrads and one grad student tutor, and meet one hour per week. Tutoring is a commitment; only request to join a group if you are sure you will attend every week. I will match tutoring groups on Monday morning, so email me before then.
