The 2010 Exploration Seminars are now accepting applications!
Want to study in another country, but can’t bear the thought of leaving the Allen Center for more than a month? Check out an Exploration Seminar — these intensive programs run 3-4 weeks, so they may even fit in your schedule if you have a summer internship ending in August.
40+ programs offer the opportunity to intensively explore a topic in a small group, outside of the classroom, during the UW’s early fall start. Exploration Seminars are open to all UW students, and have few prerequisites so that you can access the places, cultures and topics that each program explores.
- Intensive, small-group international programs
- Get away & explore during the UW’s early fall start
- 3-4 week single-class programs
- Earn five to six UW credits while studying off-campus and out-of-the-classroom
- Programs directed by top UW faculty experts
- Financial aid & scholarships available
- Unique cohort-based learning communities
- Read what UW students say about their ExploSem experiences
Although most of the options sound really interesting, these jumped out as CSE-relevant. Two information systems-related programs:
- Information, Technology, and Society in Modern Korea, in South Korea

- Dutch Designs: Research and Info System Development

And this one – a business-oriented program, but it sounds super interesting for anyone exploring tech in developing regions:
- Half the Sky – Women and Entrepreneurship, in India
