Reminder of Yahoo! HackU events this week

Stuart Reges would like to remind all our undergrads of the Yahoo! HackU events this week:

“All this week we will have events sponsored by Yahoo! This is the brainchild of Rasmus Lerdorf, the creator of PhP, who will be here all week along with other Yahoo engineers. This is the first year Yahoo has included us in this traveling event. They also visit MIT, Stanford, Berkeley, Georgia Tech, Waterloo, etc.

There will be a series of tech talks in the atrium each night ending with a 24-hour hacking contest on Friday:

Tuesday 6 pm: Rasmus Lerdorf, HackU kickoff
Wednesday 6 pm: tech talk on Searchmonkey & BOSS
Thurday, 6 pm: tech talk on YAP/Y!OS/YUI
Friday, 3 pm: 24-hour hacking contest begins
Saturday, 3 pm: prizes, JavaScript talk by Doug Crockford

The winning team will be flown to Yahoo headquarters in the spring to compete against winning teams from the other schools.

They are very open about what you produce in the contest. Here’s their description:

No rules or limitations – just show up and hack for your opportunity to win cool prizes, a spot in the gallery, street cred and the chance to represent your school at the University Hack Showdown in California. This is your shot to develop something that will revolutionize the industry, make the world a better place or at least make the judges laugh (trust us, that goes a long way!). See you there!

Teams can have up to four people and can have mixtures of grad students and undergrads and students from any major. If you want to sign up for a team, come to the opening event tomorrow night in the Atrium or go to this catalyst page I have set up for people to sign up as a team or as an individual:
