Hello,

I am an organizer with the Seattle Give Camp. Seattle Give Camp is a weekend event where software developers, PMs, and designers come together to help charities. I was hoping that you could mention it during your meeting or post our flyer in your common area. Here is the website where you can sign up: http://www.seattlegivecamp.org.

Seattle Give Camp could be good for your members. It allows them to give back to the community and also gives them a chance to work with experienced professionals, network, and have something to put on their resume. Also there will be some classes on real world topics such as Salesforce, CMS, and SEO.

Food will be provided. Let me know if you have any questions.
Hope to see you there,

Mike Roshak MCDBA, MCAD, PhD

Need student hosts for May 27th

We’re having a dinner on May 27th for teachers who were nominated by CSE students as being particularly inspirational, and I have two teachers without a student host.

If you had Sunmi Ku from Bellevue College or Tom Fleming from Edmonds’ college, please contact me via email ASAP so I can add you as the alternate host.

You need to have been in a course with one of these instructors, and ideally enjoyed it…

Engineering Majors Career fair, they need volunteers

**Volunteers still needed: CALLING ALL ENTHUSIASTIC ENGINEERS!**

Are you an upperclassman passionate about your field of engineering? Share about your major to pre-engineers at the Engineering Majors Fair (career fair style setup, but more laid-back)!  See below for event and volunteering details:

Event: Engineering Majors Fair
Hosted by the UW Society of Women Engineers & UW Engineering dorm community; open to all students
Date: Tuesday, May 6, 2014
Time: 5:30 – 7pm
Location: McCarty Hall, ABC Rooms
Volunteer Sign-up [Deadline: Wed. 4/30, 11pm]https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/swe/233576

Setup & volunteering: There will be a table set up for each engineering department, and each table must have 2-5 students at all times (volunteers may take different shifts) and at least one interesting “artifact” to show (i.e. student projects, Discovery Days displays, anything that will help illustrate what can be done in your major) at the table.  Pre-engineers will be able to visit any of the tables throughout the fair.

Thank you for your support in encouraging potential future students of your field!  If you have any questions, please email us at swe@uw.edu.

Sincerely,

Hello everyone,

We are an RSO on campus called the Husky Pediatric Cancer Foundation. We are a student-led organization dedicated to supporting low-income families with pediatric cancer patients. If you would like to join our team, please fill out the catalyst application by May 9th. This is an excellent opportunity to help the local community and to meet peers with similar interests. We are especially interested in those with web-designing experience.

You may nominate multiple people, including yourself, here: https://catalyst.uw.edu/webq/survey/apacible/231493

We need mentors for spring!

Hey folks, welcome back for the last push before summer!

We need mentors! If you have been in the department for at least one quarter, please sign up to be a mentor.  The welcome night is THIS THURSDAY 4-530pm (yes, food included).  I know this conflicts with some courses and TA’ing, sorry about that, we didn’t have a lot of options. Please sign up via the catalyst survey by 10am on Thurs.  Mentors will meet in room 691 of the Allen center around 4.

Overloading: If you are still trying to get into a CSE course, plan to attend the first day and put your name on the overload list. We’ll try to make decisions by Friday.

Dropin advising: It’s going to be very busy this week.  If you have immediate registration issues, feel free to come to dropins this week, if you want to look at your four year plan… let’s wait until you fill out a MyPlan and then come see us after a couple of weeks have passed…

Email:  We get a lot of email, but here is a tip, if you need a section change or something registration related and you give us ALL the info you think we might need (student number, sln’s etc) so we don’t have to look things up, there is a higher chance we’ll answer your email sooner rather than later.  Please try to give us at least 48 hours to return your email before pinging us again. Sending an email every hour or two doesn’t increase your chances of getting spot in the coveted class…

Hope you all had a relaxing spring break and are ready to dive into a fun quarter. We look forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

CSE Advising: Crystal, Raven, Jen, and Tina

Invite to IEEE-HKN Meeting this Thursday: S-PAC and Leadership

Hi everyone,
On Thursday, February 13th, from 5 PM – 6 PM IEEE-HKN will be meeting in EEB M306 to discuss our upcoming spring event, the Student Professional Awareness Conference (S-PAC). We will also be seeking leadership and officers for 2014/15.
The 2013 S-PAC was very successful and offered students a great opportunity to talk with industry reps, network, win prizes and have a nice catered dinner. Students gained insider knowledge about the job application process, learned about the state of the industry and had a chance to improve their communication skills. If you’d like to provide input, assist in planning or learn more about this spring 2014 event – please join us.
We’ll also be discussing IEEE-HKN leadership for next year, and transitioning to new leadership over the summer. If you are interested in IEEE-HKN leadership at the University of Washington, please come to this meeting. If you are interested in leadership but cannot attend the meeting, please email me directly at kendrick.tang@hotmail.com so we can discuss how you can become involved.
Thank you and look forward to seeing you this Thursday!
