Congratulations to Marty for being the Seattle PI’s “Geek of the Week”.

A couple of his former students were very helpful in putting together a great nomination. And I think Marty did a great job with the survey.

If you are registered for fall quarter, you’ll still have access, so it sounds like all ugrads should be fine, sorry for the false alarm.

IT’S TIME FOR THE (3rd ANNUAL) GRAD-UGRAD CANOE TRIP!!!11one
We will be canoing from the WAC to the Arboretum for a lovely outdoor
picnic, frisbee time, and general mischief.
Join us at 11AM in the CSE Atrium on June 7th. We’ll be walking down
to the WAC, renting canoes, and paddling around to the arboretum where
we’ll stop for a picnic and adventure in the woods.
Q: What do I need to bring?
Bring a few dollars to rent a canoe, your lunch, and a snack or
beverage to share.
Q: What else /can/ I bring?
Frisbees, significant others, friends, cameras…
Q: What if I can’t come at 11?
Bring your phone and call a friend to find out where we’re at. If you
don’t know anybody, email Justine (justine@cs) and she will give you
her number.
Q: Why grad students?
Because they are really fun, and they live right upstairs from us.
Q: I see that ACM-W was involved in this. Is this a coeducational event?
Both gentleman and ladies will be in attendance. This is for everyone!
See you on the 7th!

Hi all,
The College of Engineering will have two Cook scholarships available next year. This is a one year award in the amount of $7500, and students applying must must meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year in a CoE department, or pre-engineering sophomores
- WA State resident
- Demonstrated financial need as determined by the UW Office of Student Financial Aid (great financial need is often a factor for this award)
Each department may nominate two students, and the deadline to submit applications is next Thursday, May 28th. If you’re interested in applying, please send me email now, and I’ll forward you the details.
In addition to the College of Engineering scholarship forms, applicants will need to submit a statement specifically for this scholarship.

I know it’s early, but we have 50 6th graders coming on May 28th from 8-9am. I have one generous student who has offered to give a demo on tactile graphics, but I need one or two more students to help us entertain 25 6th graders, then they will switch groups and you’ll do the same demo again. I can help you come up with something to do if you don’t have anything. But if you have some cool research going on, I would really appreciate your help. Or if you can just muster the energy to be here, I’ll take that at this point. Please??

In order to facilitate the closing (and hopefully, reopening) of the Coke Closet, please pay off any debt by the end of the day Friday. If you have a positive balance and would like to be reimbursed, please either find me in 002 this Friday (10:30-11:30, 12:30-1:30), or email me by the end of the day Friday (stasis at cs) to set up a meeting time.
All tabs with positive balances will be recycled this Saturday, so please get reimbursed now. If you have a negative balance, you will still be hounded to pay up, sorry.
Sorry for the repeated messages; this will be the last. It is important to resolve this so the new officers have a clean slate to work with. Thank you all for your patience and cooperation. I’m trying to make this as painless as possible.
