The end is near — dead week is almost over!

Just a reminder to those stressed out by final projects, staying up at ungodly hours, or crying in front of their computers (hopefully not the last one)…

YOU GOT THIS.

Your compilers will compile, your networks will network, and your algorithms will bring tears of joy to the eyes of your professors. You will prove P = NP, win the Turing Award, and live happily ever after. Because you are just that awesome 😉

But seriously, you really can do it! Good luck to all on your finals 🙂  We believe in you!

Professor Gaetano Borriello touched the lives of many students in CSE, and in his memory, we would like to give back.

As a part of the University of Washington’s Computer Science and Engineering Department, we’ve all experienced a phenomenon that’s entirely unique to human existence: Professor Gaetano Borriello. As former students of his, we’ve grown to love hearing his booming, chocolatey radio voice guide us into the world of computer systems. Even though he has been a faculty member of CSE since 1988 and had hundreds–probably thousands–of students over the years, there’s no doubt in our hearts that he cares about every single student’s educational experience.

In addition, his research with ODK impacts hundreds and thousands of lives in third-world countries, being a pivotal part in bringing computing to the millions who need it.

Ever since Gaetano’s passing, on February 1st, 2015 due to colon cancer, we’ve wanted to do some good for the world by raising money for cancer research. We hope that every former student or person impacted by Gaetano has the opportunity to fight back and do some good–for the big guy.

CoMotion is opening a new makerspace in Fluke Hall, available to the entire UW community – students, faculty, and staff – regardless of department or experience level. The CoMotion MakerSpace is where creators of all stripes can bring their diverse skills and common interests to collaborate and learn from each other. The Makerspace provides access to a wide variety of tools and equipment you can use to turn your ideas into reality, as well as studio space for teams to create and share projects. Want to learn a new skill or hobby? The MakerSpace provides entry-level workshops in 3D printing, sewing, electronics, and more! Come and create with CoMotion. It is what you make it!
