We will leave this blog up for reference, but note that this is being retired and replaced by the new EdStem discussion board that all students should have access to moving forward. If you have any questions, please reach out to the Ugrad Advising team.

Join SAC for an evening of open and honest conversation surrounding failure and vulnerability. We hope to decrease the stigma our department faces regarding failure and vulnerability through a panel of highly respected people and through small group and anonymous discussions afterwards. We also hope that you will reflect on your own relationships with failure and vulnerability in this event.
You’ve probably heard multiple times that failure is a great opportunity and it isn’t something to be afraid or ashamed of. However, CSE has developed a culture of being extremely ambitious, and handling failure among a community of such high-performing peers is particularly difficult. Our high-achieving community can lead to lots of us feeling inadequate and that we don’t belong here. Often in CSE we overhear people talking about their accomplishments, but rarely do we talk about our experiences with failure (and, shocking as it may be, every single one of us has failed at some point).
Have your own stories of struggle, failure, and vulnerability? We would love to hear them! Anonymously share your stories and experiences here: https://forms.gle/nLy9Xtdqibdy16GC8
Event Details:
Date and Time: Friday, May 29th, 6-7pm
Location: Zoom link will be sent out to all who RSVP
RSVP: http://tinyurl.com/beneaththesurface20
Open to all CSE students, staff, and faculty.
Happy week 8 – keep up the good work and finish the quarter strong! We’re really excited for this event and hope you’ll join us

Not sure if you want to get involved in research? Want to know more about research opportunities in CSE? Learn more about how to get involved in research at SAC’s Ugrad Research Panel!
Doing research is a great way to harness your technical skills, apply your knowledge from classes and build great relationships with faculty/other fellow researchers in the department. We’ll have 4 accomplished undergraduate researchers coming from different research fields who can help answer any questions you have on what undergraduate research is, pros/cons of doing research, pursuing graduate school, what the undergraduate research experience is like in the Allen School. And most importantly, you can ask how to get involved!
Event details:
Date/time: 5/25 at 6pm

Note that this event is geared towards undergraduates with no or limited experience with research, but everyone is welcome to come.
Hoping to see you there!

Get ready to put some of your awesome art and design skills to good use!
Announcing the Digital Card Design Contest from the Student Advisory Council (SAC)! This is an opportunity for you to creatively design a card for others to write gratitude letters to friends, other students, or faculty! We hope that this will be a good chance for y’all to express your appreciation and gratitude to one another and make this rather desolate-feeling quarter feel a little less lonely. 🙂
Your card template submissions can be submitted here up to May 20th! (Please note that you must be logged into your CSE account to access this form).
We understand not all of us have access to tablets or printers, so feel free to use whatever medium suits you best. If you’d like, you can submit more than one card template! Once the submissions close, your card template(s) will be available for everyone in the CSE community to download! Between May 21st and May 24th end of day, you will be able to vote for your favorite card template, with the top three voted submissions winning a piece of Allen School swag (when campus opens again)!
Have an awesome Week 7!
