Study and research engineering abroad this summer! The College of Engineering is sponsoring 6 engineering programs abroad to help students make the most of their summer. There are programs for undergraduate and graduate students from every engineering discipline. Check out the information below for more information.

This info session will present basic info on CSE exchanges, and allow lots of time for questions. Topics will include info on our exchange partner schools, the benefits and challenges of going on an exchange, cultural differences, rough expenses, and how to prepare for an exchange

• Exchanges are designed to last a full year, or one semester (two quarters).
• CSE majors pay regular UW tuition while abroad, plus expenses like airfare and insurance. Financial aid and scholarships apply normally. Some exchange schools offer a stipend, offseting your extra expenses.
• Students are selected based on their academic and personal preparation for an exchange.
• CSE students typically go abroad after completing 300-level CSE courses, and take CSE senior electives abroad.

What we will do at this information session:

Steve Muench, the program director, will overview what the program involves including what we study, dates, costs, activities, how it fits into your schedule, and why you might find it quite interesting. Heta Kosonen, the TA (who also help design the program and went last time with Steve in 2015) will also be there to answer your questions. We will have a second information session in January.

Key facts about Engineering Rome:

• This study abroad opportunity is scheduled for August 24^th through September 18^th, 2017 (it is offered every-other year)
• Estimated program fee: $4,800 (it does qualify for student loans)
• Engineering Rome is open to all UW students (graduate, undergraduate, engineering and not engineering). You need NOT be an engineer or a civil engineer to participate – we love everyone – but we do talk about engineering an awful lot. 😉

AIT Budapest is visiting TODAY to talk about tech and CS study abroad in Budapest:

AIT is a study abroad program specifically for computer science students, offering small classes taught in English. CSE has pre-evaluated some AIT courses and can offer credit toward CSE graduation requirements. Hungarian language and culture classes are also available.

Andras Recski, academic director at AIT-Budapest, will talk about the school and encourage students to consider a study abroad program at Aquincum Institute of Technology BUDAPEST, for students interested in computing, design, computational biology, and IT entrepreneurship.

Pizza and small treats from Hungary will be served!

About AIT: Tailored to the needs of North American computer science and software engineering undergraduates in their sophomore through senior years, AIT offers semester-long programs. The UW CSE program has evaluated many AIT courses and can offer CSE credit for classes including Data Structures (CSE 373), HCI (CSE 440), and other subjects.

The program is made up of four course groups, each containing several different course offerings:

• Foundational Courses in Computer Science
• Advanced Applications
• Creative Design and Entrepreneurship
• Humanities Courses Related to Hungary’s Rich Cultural Heritage

All classes are conducted in English at AIT’s state-of-the-art campus on the lovely banks of the Danube River. Students live in vibrant neighborhoods of Budapest and have ample opportunities to interact with Hungarian students and explore Hungary and Europe.

AIT is small and friendly, with typical class sizes of 10-20 students. Recent U.S. students have come from Yale, Brown, MIT, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvey Mudd, Princeton, Williams, among several others. The information will be general for all engineering students, but students in departments may find it useful if they are interested in studying abroad during their time at UW. We send CSE majors to four top European CS programs for one-semester and year-long exchanges. Students take senior/graduate-level CS courses taught in English. Credits can count toward your senior electives. And, you pay your regular UW tuition.
