Paid participants wanted to test an Eclipse productivity plug-in

FYI, we will occasionally post opportunities like this under Miscellaneous, feel free to log in to change your preferences if you prefer not to receive messages unrelated to your work here in CSE.
Subject: Paid participants wanted to test an Eclipse productivity plug-in
You are invited to participate in a UW research study to evaluate an Eclipse plug-in for quickly discovering and visualizing information about your project and team.
Participants will spend 2 hours answering a survey about your current development practices, using Eclipse to perform development tasks, and answering a questionnaire about your experience. Each participant who completes the study will be given a $25 Amazon gift certificate. The study will take place at the Paul Allen Center at the University of Washington.
If you are over 18 and have used Eclipse for Java development for a class or work, you may be eligible to participate. Subjects who require Eclipse’s accessibility features to perform development activities are not eligible to participate.
By participating in the study, you can expect to gain insight into your own development practices. The risks associated with study are consistent with the risks of regular computer use, including but not limited to: ergonomic risk, and possible frustration when learning and performing the computer task.
This study is being conducted in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle campus. Your participation in this research is voluntary, and you are free to refuse to participate or quit the experiment at any time.
If you have questions about the research or are interested in participating, please contact Todd Schiller by email at tws@cs.washington.edu.

Computational Neuroscience program info session

Do you want to know how the brain works?

Do you have a taste for or interest in math or programming? Would you like to learn more about how you can apply mathematical methods to analyze the workings of the mind or build neural interfaces? The Computational Neuroscience program is a two-year program consisting of a set of required courses and opportunities to participate in paid research in laboratories working on theoretical and quantitative neuroscience. Our goal is to encourage and enable you to cross disciplinary boundaries to address questions concerning the algorithms of computation in nervous systems—from single neurons to behavior. We are looking for students with a good quantitative background, an active curiosity and an interest in delving into basic neurobiology in a quest to unravel the workings of the brain.

The program will be appropriate for two types of applicants:

  • Students interested in completing the neurobiology major who have or are willing to undertake some mathematical or computational courses to improve their analytical and modeling skills;
  • Students in a quantitative major such as CSE, EE, Applied Mathematics, Statistics or Physics who are willing to take courses to obtain a solid grounding in neurobiology

Special benefits of the program include mentoring and access to research opportunities.

Please visit our website at http://compneuro.washington.edu/ to learn more about the program, our students and the research of faculty who are associated with it. Important dates:

INFORMATION SESSION 4pm October 7th in Johnson 102.

Applications are due OCT 11th.

Seattle Give Camp looking for people

Hello,

I am an organizer with the Seattle Give Camp. Seattle Give Camp is a weekend event where software developers, PMs, and designers come together to help charities. I was hoping that you could mention it during your meeting or post our flyer in your common area. Here is the website where you can sign up: http://www.seattlegivecamp.org.

Seattle Give Camp could be good for your members. It allows them to give back to the community and also gives them a chance to work with experienced professionals, network, and have something to put on their resume. Also there will be some classes on real world topics such as Salesforce, CMS, and SEO.

Food will be provided. Let me know if you have any questions.
Hope to see you there,

Mike Roshak MCDBA, MCAD, Ph.d (ABD)
