5TH Year Masters (BS/MS program in CSE)

Hey folks,

Just a reminder that if you are a junior and plan to apply to the BS/MS 5th year master’s program, you need to finish all required 300 level courses by the end of spring quarter, and ideally be through one 400, or an additional 300 level CSE course.

We’ll have an information session early in spring quarter to help you plan. The application will open towards the end of spring and close right at the end of the quarter, so spring grades will be considered during the admission meeting.

Montana State Summer Research: Networking and Networks with Applications to Sustainability

Spend your summer in Montana gaining research skills and preparation for graduate school! Expand your CS experience, meet new students and faculty from outside UW, earn some cash, explore the Montana scenery, and still have more than a month of vacation at the end of summer. Sophomores who’ve completed 2 math courses and 2 programming courses are eligible (that’s pretty much all CSE majors).

Program Objectives:

  1. Expose students to real-world, innovative and interdisciplinary research focused on networks research and network modeling with application to sustainability
  2. Encourage more undergraduates to continue their academic careers and seek graduate degrees in computer science, engineering, and environmental science
  3. Help participants develop research skills and improve communication and collaborative skills
  4. Have fun!!  We will organize several group activities such as hikes, a trip to Yellowstone and whitewater rafting.  Montana State University is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains in Bozeman, Montana.

UBC Master of Management in Operations Research Program

UBC Master of Management in Operations Research Program

The Master of Management in Operations Research (MM in OR) program at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada), provides unparalleled depth and experience for students and industry professionals interested in the quantitative analysis of business problems. Designed for individuals with backgrounds in engineering, mathematics, economics, or other quantitative fields, the 16-month MM in OR program offers a unique blend of technical coursework, practical consulting skills, and real-world problem-solving experience that positions students for success in today’s competitive business world.

MM in OR students work closely with internationally renowned faculty, business leaders, and outstanding peers to develop and realize their goals in a professional business environment. A highlight of the program is the Industry Project. Every student receives generous financial support by completing an intensive 5-month applied project with an industrial partner that addresses a significant operational issue. Working closely with faculty and project leaders, students use the latest decision tools and technologies to make concrete recommendations to executives of some of the most prominent companies in Canada.

The MM in OR program is an ideal alternative to an MBA for technically-oriented students looking for a professional business degree that utilizes their quantitative skills. MM in OR students have excellent employment potential, and graduates go on to rewarding careers in such fields as consulting, logistics and operations analysis, and supply chain management.

Georgetown Masters of Science in Biostatistics

Georgetown University: Department of Biostatistics, Bioinformatics and Biomathematics

Are you interested in genetics, bioterrorism, international health, bioinformatics, epidemiology or health policy?

Our M.S. program provides integrated training in computational, quantitative, and biomedical sciences to support health-related research performed in academia, government, and industry. Students will not only acquire the quantitative and computational tools that underpin epidemiology and bioinformatics, but also gain substantive exposure to applications of these tools to biological and health sciences. Our program brings together faculty from our Department and from Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC) Basic Science and Clinical Departments, many of whom are members of Georgetown’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC). Graduates with an MS degree in Biostatistics go on to successful and lucrative positions in academic centers, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies and private consulting firms.

Applications for our Masters of Science Program in Biostatistics are currently open for Fall 2012. The application deadline is June 1st, 2012.

For more information, visit: http://dbbb.georgetown.edu/ or e-mail Caroline at ctw26@georgetown.edu

Duke University; WISeNet Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training (IGERT) program

NSF Grant #DGE-1068871

The purpose of the WISeNet Integrative Graduate Education and Research Training (IGERT) program is to prepare Ph.D. students for interdisciplinary research in wireless sensor networks.  Students in this program are supported for up to two years, and receive a WISeNet graduate certificate upon completion of a Ph.D. degree from one of the participating departments.

The program thematic basis is the development of intelligent sensors that process, store, and learn from data so as to improve their ability to gather information over time.  Broader impacts include unprecedented observation of environmental and ecological processes, and more effective and reliable use of sensors for defense and national security.

Hi Josh and Lindsay,

I got this brochure from Silvia Ferrari at Duke – they have a new IGERT on
sensor networks that may be of interest to some of our students.  I don’t
know how/where to publicize this, but hopefully you would know.  More
information can be found at:
