Subject: [cs-ugrads] NAE Grand Challenge Summit: Sunday and Monday
You have already been spammed to death regarding the National Academy
of Engineering “Grand Challenge Summit” that our Dean, Matt O’Donnell,
is organizing. I’m afraid this is one more …
Matt is intent on student attendance. There is a special registration
“deal” below.
The event is Sunday (on campus) and Monday (downtown). Details and
registration here:
//www.engr.washington.edu/naesummit/
Here’s the note from Matt, edited slightly:
=====
I have a deal you can’t refuse.
The National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenges Summit is right
around the corner on May 2–3. I feel strongly that this is a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students and want to ensure
that we have maximum student participation. I need your help to sign
up more students.
Tell your students to register online and when they reach the field
“budget number” type in the department chair’s last name (Levy, for
CSE). For every student who registers in this way, your department
will pay $10 and the College of Engineering will pay the remaining $10
of the registration fee. Every department can fund up to 100 students
in this way. If all departments actively participate, we can have
nearly 1,000 students register for this once in a lifetime
opportunity.
What if some of your students have already paid?
If your department has already committed to pay student registration
fees, we will pay you back for 50% of the cost up to a total of $1,000
(BioE – I know you have already been paying for all student
registrations)
If a student has already registered on their own, please have them
contact Heather Hoeksema and we will figure out how to transfer costs
to your department and the CoE and repay the student.
We have encouraged all students from across the Pacific Northwest to
participate because their careers will focus on finding solutions to
the 21st century’s grand challenges in both developed and developing
societies. Students must be prepared to collaborate on
cross-disciplinary teams that are often geographically dispersed.
Don’t let them miss this opportunity. Please forward this information
to all student organizations in your department and hype the event!
Thanks,
Matt
