FYI, the tentative schedule of what we plan to offer next year is now posted online.
2015-2016 tentative schedule (it is the first link on the main part of the page)
Please note that graduate courses specifically may change, but this is our best guess at courses for now.

If you plan to do research for credit or for pay, please remember to sign up on your MyCSE accounts. It’s crucial that we have an accurate record of all research.
Additionally, please remember that you are only allowed 6 total credits of graded 498A or 9 total credits of 498B. The first three credits of either one can be A, but the last 6 for honors need to be 498B, and it all needs to be on the same project.
Check out the research pages for details.

Hey folks, welcome back for spring quarter, the last push!
Overloading: If you are still trying to get into a CSE course, plan to attend the first day and put your name on the overload list. We’ll try to make decisions by Thursday or Friday. If you are a graduating senior, we hope to have room in 446, but no promises.
Dropin advising: It’s going to be very busy this week. If you have immediate registration issues, feel free to come to dropins this week. If you want to look at your four year plan… let’s wait until you fill out a MyPlan and then come see us after a couple of weeks have passed…
Graduation Apps: If you are planning to graduate this spring and you have NOT applied to graduate yet (you can check your MyCSE to see if you have filed yet – there should be a projected graduation date), then you should come see us the 2nd or 3rd week of the quarter (not the first)
Email: We get a lot of email, but here is a tip, if you need a section change or something registration related and you give us ALL the info you think we might need (student number, sln’s etc) so we don’t have to look things up, there is a higher chance we’ll answer your email sooner rather than later. Please try to give us at least 48 hours to return your email before pinging us again. Sending an email every hour or two doesn’t increase your chances of getting a spot in the coveted class… it just annoys us.
Tutoring: We do have some limited tutoring available, sign up online if you are interested. These small groups of 1-4 are led by a graduate student tutor. http://www.cs.washington.edu/students/ugrad/tutoring
Sincerely,

We need mentors! If you have been in the department for at least one quarter, please sign up to be a mentor. The welcome night is on Wednesday, April 1st from 3:30-5:00PM (yes, food included). I know this conflicts with some courses and TA’ing, sorry about that, we didn’t have a lot of options. Please sign up via the catalyst survey by 8am Tuesday so we have time to assign everyone. Mentors will meet in room 691 of the Allen Center for CS&E at 330 on the 1st. If you sign up, assume we’ll need your help and plan to show up. We’ll notify you if we get too many mentors, it’s never been a problem in the past, sadly.
We have 79 new students starting this spring so we’ll need at least 30 mentors. Please consider helping out our newly admitted students..
Sincerely,

Hey folks, as you enjoy spring break, we’d like to encourage you to keep checking the CSE Ugrad Jobs Blog if you are still looking for summer positions.
Additionally, the CSE Department is hiring some tour guides for spring quarter. If you are an out-going, pro-CSE, love talking with prospective students kind of person, we’d love to have you apply. This will be a paid position, but we can’t guarantee the number of hours you’d work. You would be asked to provide tours to groups of K-12 students and their families. We’ll keep the application open all week, and then extend into next week if needed. If you apply by the 27th, you’ll have priority. We’ll be hiring 4-6 students.

The application is pretty basic, so if you’re interested, please apply!

Hey there everyone,
We hope finals week is going well for all of you. A few notes about spring and summer.
First, all computer engineering majors specifically, should note that CSE 352 will likely be offered for the last time this spring. If you plan to graduate from CE and have not taken the 2 credit CSE 390C and the EE 371 course, then you should take 352 this spring. All other CE’s should plan to take the 7 credits of CSE 390 and EE 371 before they graduate.
Second, we are still finalizing plans for summer (the time schedule is not accurate), but at this point there does not appear to be ANY 400 level course. The only possibility might be that CSE 464, the animation storyboard course, might still be added. 421 and 444 will NOT be offered. The summer courses will be CSE 142, 143, 332 and 333. We may also add 154, but that is tentative.
We hope this helps you all with your planning for spring quarter. Let us know if you have questions.

Just a quick ping on this, we had 24 responses, but if anyone else has any other comments about your recruiting experience with companies, please let us know. It’s good for us to give both positive and negative feedback.
The CSE dept. is interested in hearing your feedback on company recruiting behavior this year. We’ve heard both good and bad, and would like to capture this in a survey so we can give generalized feedback to the companies to help improve the process in the future. If you are willing to share your experiences, please fill out this brief survey.
If you prefer to come in to chat with us in person, please feel free to come to dropins, or make an appointment. For the in person meetings, however, you might want to wait until registration calms down in a couple of weeks, as dropins are pretty crazy busy right now. Please gives us feedback before you leave for spring break.

Your fellow students took time to put together this etiquette guide for CSE Tech Talks. These are all quite reasonable requests, please read through this carefully.
Remember that you are representing CSE when you attend talks like these and we want companies to come away with a positive impression of our students being engaged and thoughtful. (Versus entitled or greedy).
Subject: CSE Tech Talk Etiquette
To: CSE Ugrads
Food
Food Portions Be considerate of the people towards the back of the line and don’t heap portions on your plate. Wait until there is left over food to go for seconds.
Taking food and leaving Food is for the individuals attending and engaging in the talk. If there are extras at the end of the talk, they will be brought to lab 002.
Trash Please dispose of trash in the recycling and garbage bin. Don’t leave it at your seat. If the garbage bin is full, there are plenty outside EEB 125 and around the building.
The Talk
Be respectful of the speaker Whispering can be heard quite audibly in EE 125.
Engage! Sit towards the front, ask questions, and be an active listener.
Show up early for the talk This allows us to start the talks on time and give the speakers enough time to present. If you are late, make an effort to not be distracting.
Thank the speaker and other representatives If possible, please thank the speaker and other individuals from the company. We are representatives of the CSE department and want the companies come back!
Thank you,
Your fellow students

A couple more updates.
First, CSE 477 is open for CS majors too, so feel free to register if you want that capstone. EE’s will start taking the space in there soon. The only prerequisite for 477 is actually CSE 466, so if you need an add code, let me know.
Stat 391 does not officially have CSE 312 as a prerequisites, but it is a new prerequisite to the course. The instructor this spring prefers that all Stat 391 students have CSE 312 completed or something similar. You can talk with the instructor directly if you have additional questions.

Hey folks,
Just a heads up, EE Majors will be allowed to register for CSE 477 starting Friday at 4PM, and it will likely fill with students, so if you are planning to take it, you should register for it by 4pm Friday (tomorrow). Otherwise, if for some reason you can’t register by then, you need to contact me directly ceney@cs (Crystal) with your full student number and name and why you can’t register until later.
Also, EE 371 will have 9 more spaces for CSE students. They have requested to raise the limit and are just waiting on the Time Schedule office at UW to change something before that will go into effect, so keep watching over the next few days and space should open up soon. By Monday at the latest.
