Google Tech Talk

Google is coming to campus next week and we hope you’ll join us for a tech talk, “Testing Spanner” by Brian Vance!

Testing Spanner Spanner is Google’s scalable, multi-version, globally-distributed, and synchronously-replicated database. It replicates data across geographic regions for availability and locality of access, and shards the data across many servers for high throughput. Spanner is the first system to distribute data at global scale and support externally-consistent distributed transactions. Testing a system of this size and scale is no easy feat. This talk will give an overview of Spanner and discuss some of the methods Google uses to test this system.

When: Wednesday, February 18th, 6pm Where: EE105

RSVP: https://docs.google.com/a/cs.washington.edu/forms/d/1rQ-XbFprvaFcQ4zpjd_QD4E2WlL2csvL9CYlVHbmQLc/viewform

P.S. Google is still looking for graduating students to fill both Software Engineer (g.co/SWEgrad) and Software Engineer in Test (g.co/SETgrad) roles. If you’re interested in speaking one-on-one with members of the Spanner team after the talk, please feel free to bring your resume.

Tableau Tech Talk

Join us Thursday, February 19th to hear from Daniel Leventhal, Development Manager, as he shares how Tableau Software is changing the big data industry by democratizing data. Similar to how desktop publishing or the spreadsheet put powerful tools into the hands of the people who needed to use them, Tableau gives people the ability to visualize and analyze their own data. Learn how doctors, scientists, programmers, and even gamers are empowered to discover their data at the speed of thought. We are on a mission to fundamentally change the way people interact with their data. Daniel will provide a first-hand look into the software and share what we have in store to help us reach our mission.
