Tomorrow: You’re Invited! TEDxWomen Screening @ UW

TEDxWomen is coming to the University of Washington — and you are invited!

UW Women in Informatics, Microsoft Women of Research, and Women In Bio Seattle Metro have joined forces to bring the passion, spirit and energy that is TEDxWomen to the University of Washington.  Join us on December 1, 2012, from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm, for rich and stimulating conversation and exchange of ideas at this one-day global event.

We are gathering together a group of 185 accomplished, curious, TED-type thinkers and doers to meet, engage and celebrate at our 2012 TEDxWomen event, TEDxSouthLakeUnionWomen.  This year’s theme for TEDxWomen is “The Space Between”, and we will consider the space between what we see and what is true, and the space between our intellectual and emotional intelligence, and more.

Cynthia Adkins, life sciences and technology attorney, and President, Seattle Metro chapter of Women In BioRane Johnson the Education and Scholarly Communication Principal Director at Microsoft Research Connections, and myself are extending this personal invitation to you: students and faculty of the UW with a focus in engineering and technology. Take part in this challenging, inspiring and timely conversation, where you can cross-fertilize, draw inspiration, and share your personal and professional insights and experiences.  It will give you an opportunity to meet women changing the world in Puget Sound and have the opportunity to be part of activities to grow more women in Science Technology Engineering and Math careers in the region.

At our event, we will watch via livestream TEDxWomen speakers from Washington DC, and we will also feature local speakers, including Katie Davis, Assistant Professor at The University of Washington Information School, and Munmun De Choudhury, Microsoft Researcher.

Half of the seats are reserved for UW registrants meaning the other half will be filled by professionals from Microsoft Research and Women in Bio so there will be plenty of networking opportunities. This is a free event and we’ll even be providing breakfast and lunch! If you would like to attend, please either RSVP to me via reply email and I will have you registered, or sign-up at tedxwinfo.eventbrite.com . (password to see the event page is “WINFO”). We will also be providing a private screening of Ms. Newsom’s film, “Miss Representation”, immediately following the regular TEDxWomen sessions.  It’s a 90-minute documentary about the portrayal of women and girls in the media, and it’s a very powerful, important (and disturbing) film.  http://www.missrepresentation.org/  more details to come prior to the event.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Thank you. Hope to see you very soon!
