A truly remarkable achievement! Congratulations Will!

Dear Colleagues,
The results of the Putnam Competition have just arrived with great
news: Will Johnson has placed in the top five and has been named a
Putnam Fellow. Will is a joint Math and CS major. He is the first UW
student to win a Putnam Fellowship since the competition was initiated
in 1938.
Please join me in congratulating Will for this remarkable achievement.
This year’s UW participants again benefited from a Math 480 course and
other Putnam preparation efforts that were led by Ioana Dumitriu and
Julia Pevtsova.
There were 4036 participants in the competition. In addition to Will,
four UW students, Nate Bottman, Steven Rutherford, Song Yisong, Keyun
Tong, placed in the top 500. Congratulations to all the students for
their success.
