Critical Systems Incorporated Scholarships

Critical Systems Incorporated Scholarships
Subject: scholarship
Date: May 14, 2013 2:10:45 PM PDT

We

are offering 2 scholarships per year to 3rd and 4th year undergrad students in engineering and science.  Note that the first scholarship’s open period is next month.  The 2nd one (winter award) will likely be targeted to work study or design project related efforts.   We will be ferreting out those ideas over the next couple of months.  I would guess that this will morph in a number of ways over time as we bring in industry partners, etc.    We will work on the timing of this going forward as well.

Also to verify, in the spirit of maintaining fair and equitable approach, our only administrative requirement for the schools is that this is posted on a web page that is accessible to any student who would be interested.   Beyond that, it’s up to the school re: how to get the word out.    Also, in addition to maintaining a level playing field, the ability to show our potential industry partners where it’s posted on the participating schools’ websites will help make it more concrete, and consequently easier to bring them on board and garner more funds for the scholarships going forward (the “build it and they will come” approach).

Thanks for your further consideration, and passing this along to the appropriate people.   Please let me know if/when UW decides to officially offer this.

College of Engineering Scholarship Applications – Open April 1 to May 1

The College of Engineering scholarship application for the 2013-2014 academic year will open on Monday April 1. The application will close on May 1 at 5pm.

http://www.engr.washington.edu/curr_students/scholarships.html

CSE takes scholarship applications twice per year. You should apply during this application period if:

  • You are a Computer Engineering major. CSE only has two awards to give out this application cycle, given to us by the College of Engineering with the requirement that only CE students are eligible to receive them.
  • You wish to be considered for College of Engineering awards: http://www.engr.washington.edu/curr_students/studentprogs/emergingleaders.html (CE and CS majors eligible, be sure to select “College of Engineering” when applying).

The bulk of the 2013-2014 CSE scholarships are awarded during the summer application period (Aug 1-Aug 20). So if you don’t receive an award this round, don’t worry. You have a second chance!

Emerging Leaders in Engineering Scholarships

Additionally, the College of Engineering’s Emerging Leaders Scholarships have a separate application process (please note this is different from last year). Emerging Leaders in Engineering Scholarships are awarded to students who are selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders in Engineering Program. The Program is designed to help undergraduate engineering students develop their leadership abilities through practical experience and personal reflection.

The application for the Emerging Leaders Scholarships will also open on April 1. Both CE and CS majors are eligible! You can find more info here: http://engr.washington.edu/curr_students/studentprogs/emergingleaders.html

Microsoft – College Scholarship Program for the 2013-2014 School Year

http://www.microsoft.com/university/scholarships

Program Overview

Microsoft College scholarships are designed to encourage students to pursue studies in computer science and related technical disciplines. Students will be awarded scholarships in recognition of their passion for software, academic excellence, and ability to make a difference in the software industry.

Microsoft is excited to be offering scholarships for the 2013–2014 academic year.  Applications must be postmarked by February 1, 2013.

At Microsoft, we want to encourage students from groups currently under-represented in the field of computer science to pursue technical degrees.  While all candidates who meet the criteria for eligibility described below may apply, a large majority of our scholarships will be awarded to female students, under-represented minority students or students with disabilities. Minority applicants must be a member of one of the following groups under-represented in the software field: African American, Hispanic or Native American. Microsoft will review all applications and select final candidates on the basis of eligibility, quality of application, displayed interest in the software industry, commitment to leadership and financial need. We will target announcing scholarship recipients by March 1st, 2013.

What are the provisions of the award?

Scholarships are awarded, full or partial amounts, to recipients for the 2013-2014 academic year.  Full tuition scholarships will cover tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year as posted by the financial aid office at your college or university. Microsoft will make payments to the designated school, and they’re not transferable to other academic institutions.  Funds are to be used for tuition only and may not be used for other costs on the recipient’s bursar bill. All recipients of the scholarship will be required to apply for, and complete if offered, a salaried summer internship of 12 weeks or more at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington.  Microsoft reserves the right not to offer a position to the scholarship winner if an appropriate match cannot be found.

What are the criteria for scholarship eligibility?

Students must be enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at a 4-year college or university in the United States, Canada, or Mexico at the time the application is submitted.  Students must be enrolled full-time and making satisfactory progress toward an undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline, such as math or physics, with a demonstrated interest in computer science.  The student must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 4.0, or a 4.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 5.0.

What is required to apply?

A completed application includes six items:  your résumé, transcript, application details, essay questions, letter of referral, and online application to the Microsoft Summer Internship program.  Items must be postmarked or emailed by February 1, 2013 to receive full consideration.  An application is considered ineligible if all parts are not received.  It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all pieces are received by Microsoft by the deadline.
