It is with great excitement that the Ellison Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies would like to announce the launch of the Vladimir Gross Memorial Endowed Fund to honor the legacy of Vladimir Gross, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literature, who taught Russian language at the UW for nearly four decades.
REECAS would like to request applications for the new, annual Gross Undergraduate Fellowship for exceptional undergraduate students interested in studying in Russia. Priority will be given to undergraduates to travel to Russia to study the Russian language, but funds may also support undergraduate students to travel to Russia to study the country’s history, literature or culture.

Ed Lazowska asked us to tell you all:
Thanks for the GREAT turnout at the recruiting day on Wednesday afternoon. The 20 Affiliate companies were really thrilled with the quality and quantity of students.
CS Ugrads,
As you go through the career fair today, be aware that companies will be handing out invitations to the ACMW-hosted dinner at 6:30. If you receive an invitation from a company, congratulations! You have just won yourself the opportunity to casually talk to several companies at the dinner.
Please only accept the invitation if you are planning to attend the dinner, and be respectful to other students by only taking one invitation. Hope to see many of you tonight!
Thanks,
ACMW

After placing first in last years Pacific Rim Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (PRCCDC), the UW CSE team is looking to add a few members to its ranks for the 2009 competition. We’ll be competing against other regional schools, and have the opportunity this year to advance to the national competition.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to have studied “computer security” to be valuable to the team. We’re looking for undergrads who have any number of skillsets. (more…)
Hi all,
I know this is pretty short notice, but we’re going to have a short informational meeting Thursday evening, January 22nd, for our two departmental study abroad programs.
KTH in Stockholm, Sweden: http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/KTH.html
ETH in Zurich, Switzerland: http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/ETH.htm
Students who are interested in attending either of these schools during the 2009-2010 academic year should definitely plan to attend, but the session is also appropriate for those of you who are thinking about it later on down the line. Professor Borning will give a brief overview of the KTH program, and we hope to have students who have participated in both the ETH and KTH programs there to talk about their experiences and help answer questions. Shortly after the meeting, the application for the CSE study abroad programs will go online at http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/exchanges.html, and we’ll select students in February.

Light snacks will be provided.
Please send me a quick email RSVP (mreardon at cs) if you plan to attend, so I can make sure we have a big enough room. If you cannot make it to the session but would like to be considered for either program, let me know.
Thanks!
