Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Schoalrship Info

The Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship awards up to $50,000 per year for up to 6 years to college seniors or recent graduates with excellent academic records and financial need to attend graduate or professional programs beginning fall 2009. Each UW campus can nominate up to 2 students to compete in the national competition for this award. The campus application process and additional information about the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship are available at the Office of Merit Scholarships, Fellowships & Awards website.

To be eligible, students must have:

  • Senior standing or have graduated from UW within the past five years.
  • A cumulative undergraduate grade-point average of 3.50 or better.
  • Demonstrated unmet financial need.
  • A bachelor’s degree by the start of the fall 2009.
  • Not previously been nominated for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship.
  • Plans to begin their first graduate degree program at an accredited college or university in the fall of 2009.

Games4Girls competition coming up!

Games4Girls Competition: ChicTech, an outreach program of the University of Illinois’ Department of Computer Science, extends an open invitation for college women to participate in the fifth annual Games 4 Girls Programming Competition (G4G). Students can get real-world, collaborative experience by creating new software for girl gamers. Teams from various Universities will compete using the Gamemaker platform. Munro Public Service Fellowship

The Sterling and Gene Munro Public Service Fellowship encourages a life-long commitment to public service by providing students with support (between $2000 and $4000) for a proposed public service initiative.  In addition, Munro Fellows participate in a community-based leadership seminar in winter and spring quarters.

The extended application deadline for 2009 Munro Fellowships is November 17, 2008.

2009 Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship – Deadline to Apply is February 6, 2009

Dr. Anita Borg (1949-2003) devoted her life to revolutionizing the way we think about technology and dismantling the barriers that keep women and minorities from entering the computing and technology fields.

In honor of Anita’s vision, Google is proud to announce the 2009 Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship, awarding a group of female students each a $10,000 scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year. All
finalists and scholarship recipients will also be invited to attend a 3-day Scholars’ Retreat at the Googleplex in Mountain View, CA in June 2009.

The University of Washington Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering has a great opportunity for current UW students with a strong interest in computing and previous PC tech experience.  Candidates should be outgoing, motivated and ready to work in a fun, dynamic technical environment.  Primary responsibilities are to answer CSE helpdesk questions and provide technical support to CSE dept. Faculty, Staff and Students.  Daily tasks also involve building/deploying Windows PC’s, printer maintenance, managing loaner equipment, troubleshooting minor software, hardware, networking problems, and other special projects.

Interested applicants should be looking for 10 to 19.5 shift hours/week, with the option of additional hours during quarter breaks and summer.  Hours desired are flexible daytime hours (we schedule around your classes), and the possibility of weekend shifts.

Starting pay is $11/hour.
