I hope you are all busy polishing your resumes for the upcoming career fair.  Keep in mind that companies like to look at resumes before and after the career fair, so please post them on the CSE resume database, the UW Husky Jobs site, and the Washington Technology Industry Association sits all linked here: http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/ugrad/current/careers/index.html

Additionally, if you’d like one on one appointments to look over your resume, the CSE professional masters program advisor is helping the ugrad team with career related events and he will be taking appointments over the next few weeks.  His name is Dave Rispoli, and you can email him directly for resume review appointments at rispoli@cs

We look forward to seeing you all at the Career Fair this week. Please note there are two. One is for the UW, but that will have different companies than you’ll see on Friday. Friday is just targeting CSE students and we need to make a BIG showing.  So please plan to attend whether you are looking for full time positions or summer internships.

We’ve already reached our cap for the tech interview coaching sessions on Monday, so I had to close the online RSVP.

If you would like to participate and didn’t sign up, please email Dave Rispoli (rispoli@cs), and he can add you to a waitlist in case of cancellations. You should specify if you can attend the 3:30-4:30pm session or the 4:30-5:30pm or either.

For everyone who filled out the survey, I just sent email to both groups confirming your session time. Some students with a preference for 3:30 were moved to 4:30 due to limitations on space.

The Employer Panel is first CSE recruiting prep event of the year! The purpose is to inform you about the recruiting process from the employers’ perspective.

The panel consists of four industry representatives: one recent grad/engineer, one HR representative from a large company, one HR rep from a small company, and one hiring manager.

• Large Co. HR: Ben Mercer, Microsoft
• Small Co. HR: Joni Kimzey, Tableau Software

Moderator: Dave Rispoli, CSE Professional Master’s Program Advisor

Brian Ma will discuss his own job search after graduating from CSE. Tam Armstrong, another CSE alum, will discuss what his company looks for in employees.  Ben Mercer and Joni Kimzey will discuss how recruiting works within their large and small companies.

The panel is meant to be general — the represented companies may certainly provide some level of self-promotion, their focus will be on providing a peek inside the recruiting process so the students will know how to best prepare. We encourage you to attend even if you’re not considering employment at these specific companies!

Our moderator, Dave Rispoli, is the PMP adviser. He’ll be helping out with other ugrad career events.

I received a note yesterday from Google.  About 6 months ago, Google significantly slowed their hiring.  That is now in the past — the company is back to an aggressive hiring stance, particularly in the Seattle office.  It’s a good time to apply.

SEC’s mission is to empower students to become social entrepreneurs by instilling the basics of business strategy and the process for starting and maintaining an organization.  Our members tackle specific social problems through their own projects, or through collaboration with existing business and organizations.

We are currently looking for passionate and dedicated leaders to fill some of our officer positions, we are especially on the look for an IT student that is interested in the following position:

Associate Director of Information Technology and Design

• Update the design and SEC website and SEC blog
• Devise and propose technology strategy and platform implementation
• Administer blog content and  member permission
  
• Monitor blog content and assist in formatting updates to club website as deemed necessary by the Associate Director of Public Relations and Community Affairs
• Collaborate with Associate Director of Marketing & Recruitment to create marketing materials such as fliers, banners, and brochures.
• Assist in providing materials for visual presentations and marketing (ie: file size and file format)
  

Active Duties

• Monitor blog content and make appropriate modification for user friendliness
• Provide Tech support for members and user of website (through secuw@u.washington.edu)
• Web analysis and coordinate with Associate Director of Marketing
